Recycle Pots and Pans will hold a Columbus launch event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015 at The Commissary, our NEW pots-and-pans dropoff located at 1400 Dublin Rd, Columbus, OH. We’re so excited to meet the Columbus community!
The Commissary is a new maker-space for food and drink in Columbus. The facility offers 16,000 square feet of commercial kitchen, production and event space designed to be used by everyone from aspiring entrepreneurs to professional chefs to home cooks. At The Commissary, Turner found a perfect partner to help begin to grow the organization — with eventual plans to take the efforts nationally — in founder Kate Djupe.
“We’re two entrepreneurial women, two mothers, working together to help families eat together,” Turner says. “For myself, as a cheesemaker, this feels like a natural outgrowth. It’s important to me to help families have access to not only nutritious local foods, but also the tools for preparing them.”
In Columbus, Turner is working to build relationships with various nonprofit groups, ranging from groups that help survivors of domestic abuse to groups that work with families struggling with drug addiction to those that work with refugees. An initial partner group is Freedom a la Cart, which works to empower adult survivors of human trafficking to live an independent life through personal and economic self-sufficiency.
